Beer tasting at Sharps Brewery
We spent an extremely interesting and engaging afternoon drinking beer at Sharps brewery this week. We were lucky enough to be given a guided tour of the brewery by head brewer Aaron McClure. We learnt all about the mashing process, different kinds of barley and hops and how the brewers maintain the flavours of the different ales. There was also a look at the packaging lines and the huge tanks of fermenting beer.
After an exclusive look around the very impressive facility we were then given the tasting experience by Sam, who guided us through the Sharps family of ales and lagers. The bespoke Tasting room is available to anyone to book through the Sharps web site and is a great way to get to know more about the company and its products. Since the business was acquired by Molson Coors it has gone from strength to strength all based around the success of its famous Doom Bar amber ale. All the beers are named with a Cornish twist and are inspired by the amazing setting just above Rock on the Camel Estuary.
The brewery is very proud of its tradition of producing cask ales at scale and to very high quality standards, in fact it is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe producing 1000s of casks a week for distribution all over the UK. We got to taste a couple of the new beers which have launched recently, Twin Coast and Solar Wave, as well as the well established and particular favourites Atlantic Pale and Offshore lager.
We really enjoyed the tasting and came away with a few samples from the on site shop, it was a great way to spend a couple of hours and if you get the chance we would highly recommend it.
