Roger Irving Little is the excellent potter behind these fabulous pieces. You can watch him work whilst you shop and it is truly an inspiring process. The skill with which he creates such intricate designs is testament to his expertise in the craft. Due to the nature of Mochaware, every design is unique, so you know you are walking away with a one-of-a-kind piece. Mr Irving Little has been gracing Boscastle with his pottery since 1962, keeping the 300 year old tradition of slipware pottery making in Boscastle alive.

The History of Mochaware

Mochaware is a technique of pottery decoration where a blend of herbs and metal oxides is used to achieve a tree-like effect. Mr Irving Little, the mastermind behind this Mochaware revival in Boscastle, discovered some pieces of Victorian Mochaware on an archeological excavation. He decided to experiment with ways of recreating the pattern. After four years, he found success in his technique which he continues to share from his Boscastle shop. The Mochaware styles used here are unique. The herbal recipe of the ‘strange brew’ used to create the pattern is a well kept secret.
